Often, we are image rather than being. The complexities of this distinction are at the heart of a practice which continuously questions our strained relationship with the world, each-other and ourselves. Samuel Thompson-Plant’s work stages situations in which people, places and things might express themselves authentically, and transcend their original state by virtue of their being.

An interrogation of moving-image in Samuel’s work, and its enmeshment with our sense of authenticity, speaks to an undercurrent of performativity which embeds itself also in his sculptures and text-based works.

Most recently, Samuel was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2023-24, and his work ‘Tig’ is currently on show at Camden Art Centre until April 14th 2024. He has also recently been a part of alternative MA Programme School of the Damned, and has exhibited in multiple spaces in London. Samuel’s studio is currently based in East London.

Born in Leicester, UK (1998), Samuel graduated from BA Fine Art at Loughborough University, UK, and has attended the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki, Finland, for an international exchange year. He has exhibited in and curated exhibitions in art spaces across the UK and internationally. Samuel has also been involved in multiple projects, running participatory workshops and engaging in collaborations with artists both within and outside the UK.
