Hello once again,

If you were an insect, which insect would you be

Last semester, someone said something last year to me that stuck, that they remember seeing some sort of insect crawling up the wall of their basement. They said that at this point in time, a big decision had to be made, or an affirmation of something in this person's life. The direction in which the insect was crawling, after having being spotted and watched by this person, would become a determinate tool for making this decision. Left or right, north east or north west. The bug crawled one way, and the person's eyes lit up, the bug has given them the confirmation they needed. I thought this was beautiful.

Today's reading is Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis 1915. The book begins with a man named Gregor Samsa waking up to discover that his body has transformed into that of a giant insect. This reading is an excerpt from the second half of the first chapter, in which Samsa tries to get out of bed.

This will probably resonate with those who struggle to get up in the morning, which also seems to be even more of a task at the moment.

Also, the song attached to the beginning and end of this reading is Ivor Cutler's I Believe in Bugs 1974.
