Bedtime Story Conservatory 4 30/03/2020
Hello once again to everyone,
I hope those who are having a rough time right now are getting the support they need. We are a dissipated community but I hope everyone feels able to connect with each-other and to reach out to each-other and a more positive future. I am, as well as i'm sure many others are, here for you.
Thank you again for being part of the list and also to the people who have made suggestions for reading material as well!
Today's reading is the 2nd and 3rd chapter of Jack Kerouac's On the Road, 1957. Jack Kerouac was an American writer who was one of the key members of the Beat Generation, a post-war era of writers who explored American culture. The book is based on Kerouac's journey across the United States with his friends, and formed from his notebooks.
"On the Road pulsates to the rhythms of 1950s America: jazz, sex, drugs, and the desperate hunger of a new generation for experiences that are passionate, exuberant and alive to the heartbreaking potential of the present moment." - this Guardian article.
The song also attached to the beginning and end of the story is Out of Nowhere, 1947 by Charlie Parker. He was a pioneer of Bebop, or 'bop', a mid 1940's style of Jazz in the US, which is mentioned in the reading.
