Hello everyone,

I would like to kick off this email to keep you updated on the fact that I in no way expect you to or am under any illusion that you should feel obliged to listen to the readings or even read these emails that I send flying into your inboxes.

I can only hope that in some way, these emails and the content in them land at the right point in time and space for you to absorb something from them which I have put in, and that this project forms some sort of collection of information or sense of information or a bubble of information or a folder or a time capsule within myself and maybe within you too.

I can't stop thinking and laughing about this shot from Bruce Almighty recently, the scene where Jim Carrey 'parts the red sea' in a bowl of tomato soup (click picture for full clip)-

Today's reading is Tom Lehrers' The Irish Ballad 1950. Tom Lehrer is an American musician, satirist, songwriter and mathematician. His songs often satirize and twist popular musical genres, and he is cited as having a huge impact on 'sick comedy' from the late 50's, characterized by cynicism and social critique. On the sleeve notes of this song, Lehrer writes:

"The folk song has in recent years become the particular from of permissible idiocy of the intellectual fringe. Here, for these elite, is an ancient Irish ballad; it is complete with modal tune, simple story line, and inane refrain, but it differs from other ancient ballads in that it was written in 1950."

This song has strong nostalgic value for me, as my step dad used to sing it when I was younger in our second house. He would sing this many times to make us kids laugh. Here in this recording I am singing for the first time in this project. Please note that I am in no way implying that I am a good singer.

I hope you have a good evening.
