Bedtime Story Conservatory 59 25/05/2020
Good afternoon everyone,
I don't know about you but I'm boiling today, warm, took all of the bins out and walked back up the stairs and I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. I got a tattoo today, I didn't look whilst the needle pierced the skin of my chest, but it was fairly painful, and it felt like the needle was etching an opening to the space between my heart and my stomach. It reminded me of a film, where a cat cuts a perfectly circular hole out of a pane of glass, and I couldn't remember what it was for ages, but now I realise it was from Shrek 2, when Puss in Boots retrieves the Happily Ever After potion from the Fairy Godmothers' factory.

Today's reading is 2 poems by Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), both entitled 'Bread'. Mistral was Chilean poet, diplomat, feminist, humanist and educator. She was the first Latin-American author to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature.
"I write poetry because I can't disobey the impulse; it would be like blocking a spring that surges up in my throat. For a long time I've been the servant of the song that comes, that appears and can't be buried away. How to seal myself up now? … It no longer matters to me who receives what I submit. What I carry out is, in that respect, greater and deeper than I, I am merely the channel.”
She rejected being affiliated with Magic Realism, characterized by realistic scenes and images with magical and fantastical elements. Frida Kahlo was also associated with this movement.
